Innovative Technology to Diagnose and Treat TMJ
The team at Westchester TMJ & Aesthetics prides itself on staying up to date with all the latest techniques and technologies in the field of TMJ. In addition to having two dental degrees and memberships in a number of professional organizations, Dr. Mejia (and her staff ) participate in regular advanced training on the latest modalities to treat TMJ.
Westchester County TMJ treatment is available at Dr. Mejia’s office in a variety of forms. TMJ is a condition that often go untreated due to unawareness, misdiagnosis, and improper treatment. Many healthcare professionals simply don’t think about TMJ dysfunction when someone presents with earaches and a stiff neck. The keen eyes of Dr. Mejia (along with her technology) can spot the odd array of symptoms that TMJ is often present.
Technology can be a powerful tool in diagnosing TMJ. That’s why we utilize some of the most advanced equipment available to help our patients.
Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT): Cone beam computed tomography gives us detailed images of your temporomandibular joints. The high-resolution, 3D images allow Dr. Mejia to spot even the most minute changes to your bone structure so we can identify abnormal wear and damage early.
T-Scan: This amazing piece of technology allows us to measure the bite forces at every point as your teeth come together when biting or chewing. This helps understand how imbalances affect your bite and cause damage to your teeth, wear of your jaw joints, and muscle tension. T-Scan is used in diagnosing and treating TMJ disorder.
Electromyography: This technique lets us measure the activity and tension level in your muscles and gives us a complete picture of the imbalance and dysfunction of your TMJs. Electromyography helps us ensure that our TMJ treatment eliminates painful tension in the muscles of your jaw, head, and neck.
TENS (Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation): Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation is like a massage. It stimulates your jaw muscles to flex and stretch in ways that release pain and tightness. TENS is an effective diagnostic tool as well as a TMJ treatment depending on the severity of your TMJ disorder.
